For over 50 years, Roslyn Eye Centre has provided our community with elegant and functional eyewear. Being a staple of the community, we believe in investing in our community and our future. That is why we joined up with Efren Andaluz of Andaluz the Artist to have a mural done right here at Roslyn Eye Centre! Our goal for this piece is to inspire our community. That is why this piece features great creators throughout history including Ben Franklin, Albert Einstein, Satoru Iwata, and Steve Jobs.
Benjamin Franklin was the 6th president of the United States and a great scientist. His major contributions to science included his discoveries and theories on electricity as well as creating bifocals. Being one of Long Island’s largest optical stores, how could we not have the father of bifocals on our mural?!
With his theory of relativity and influence on the philosophy of science, Albert Einstein was one of the greatest minds in all of history. His quote, “Imagination is more important than knowledge,” is a perfect example of our mission to shape our community with inspiration and creativity.
Satoru Iwata was a former president of Nintendo. His involvement in Nintendo’s game history stretches as far back as Kirby’s Adventure all the way up to today’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo stands as a company that supports the ideas of youth and is an example of creating fun for all generations. We believe that our mural incorporates this vision of fun for all generations. In fact, in order to incorporate the idea of fun for all ages, we had some students from Roslyn High School help us paint the mural! This mural was designed by the students and artists of our community at a staple location of the community.
You can’t get much more creative than Steve Jobs and his idea of “Think Different.” The co-founder of Apple Inc., was a visionary in his field and a major influence for modern creativity. Inspiring to create was what we wanted in this mural and we believe Efren Andaluz helped us incorporate this idea of creativity.
This mural is intended to be a community piece. Created by our community and for the next generations of our community to come. Our goal for this mural was to get our community involved while updating a historic landmark in the Roslyn area. We encourage you to come to our store and take pictures with the mural, tell your friends about it, and join the community here at Roslyn Eye Centre.
